The New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged that if his party is elected on December 7, 2024, his government will initiate a programme called “Operation Olympics Glory.”

This initiative will focus on dedicating resources to prepare Ghanaian athletes for major international competitions.

Dr Bawumia made this announcement during the launch of the party’s 2024 election manifesto, held at the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.

His proposal follows Team Ghana’s failure to secure podium finishes at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his administration would invest in athletes’ preparations, particularly with a focus on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to secure medals in targeted sports disciplines.

We are going to start an Operation Olympics glory program by dedicating resources towards the preparation of our athletes and their readiness for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA, including where necessary, targeting specific sports for medals.
