Media Attaché of Ghana’s contingent at the 2024 Olympics, Benjamin William Graham, has doubled down on the need for better preparation for Ghanaian athletes for competitions.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after Ghana’s chances of making a final appearance in an event at the 2024 Olympics went up in smoke following Ghana’s disqualification from the Men’s 4×100 Metre Relays.
Ghana finished sixth in the relay semifinals with a time of 38.62 seconds but got disqualified after the race due to a lane infraction stemming from a delayed baton change between Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Beyond the Men’s Relay Team’s unsuccessful attempt to make the final, Ghana’s athletes in swimming, high jump and 100 Metre Men’s events also suffered disappointing results and Graham believes the country’s low investment into athletes’ preparations is a key component.
“We haven’t really prepared as we would want to for the Olympic Games and countries have spent over four, five years preparing for the Olympic Games. The athletes have run good times, have had the best of coaches to train with.”
“We have the talent and we try as much as possible to augment that; the Strasbourg preparation was great but I am saying that we cannot compare our preparation to that of other countries and think and assume that we are best placed to win medals than them.”
