Media Attaché of Ghana’s contingent at the 2024 Olympics, Benjamin William Graham, believes circumstances beyond coaching are some of the possible reasons behind Ghana’s inability to make the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the Men’s 4×100 Metre Relays.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after Ghana got disqualified from the race despite finishing sixth with a time of 38.62 seconds.
A delayed baton change between Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu led to a lane infraction from Ghana hence the disqualification. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“I won’t say that it was a coaching problem. From Strasbourg (where Ghana camped before the Olympics) , the coaches have been working on the baton pass so the circumstances which leads to a team dropping a baton, is not something that is peculiar to us…and one of the reasons the coaches had to spend a lot and lot of time of perfecting it and sometimes I think that the atmosphere and entire competition gets into these athletes but I am not going to say that it was the coaches fault.”
“Coaches can do everything theoretically but practically when you get to the stadium you have to make sure you get it right, what has been put on paper. On paper, it was supposed to go perfect but on the day of execution, it wasn’t the best.”
