All the GFA cares about is MONEY- Derek Boateng

Former Black Stars player Derek Boateng has delivered a scathing remark about the Ghana Football Association (GFA) stating that the Association is only interested in money and not the welfare of footballers.

He said this in an interview as Ghana’s upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October is yet to have an official venue due to the unavailability of a CAF approved stadium in the country to host international games.

The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi was Ghana’s remaining approved venue to host international games but CAF withdrew its approval of the stadium to host such games in September after Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola at the stadium.

Commenting on the horrors Black Stars players have to deal with playing on terrible pitches in Ghana, Derek Boateng slammed the GFA’s role in the mess.

“The FA needs to wake up and do something because this is their job you know; to make sure that all the fields are good for the players to play. The only thing they care about…is money. We have players playing in Europe on a good field. They will come and come and play on a s*** field and you expect them to perform well and you expect them to win games.”

Derek Boateng

“If the win isn’t coming then it will be a problem. If the FA cares about football, they have to make sure that those things are done before the players will come because for me they cannot put any pressure on any player that they are not playing well they are not performing well. It’s coming from them. For me they have to wake up and do something about those things.”

GFA Vice President Mark Addo

Boateng starred at Getafe in Spain and Panathinaikos in Greece in his club career and is a scout at Right To Dream. He played for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
