Baba Yara Stadium pitch was damaged after it was rented out for a Christian service

Former Black Stars player Derek Boateng has described Ghana’s present “stadium situation” as a sad one since the country, at the time of writing, has no CAF approved stadium to host games at the senior level.

Ghana’s Baba Yara Stadium was the only approved venue to host international games such as the Black Stars 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October.

However, the stadium has been banned by CAF after Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola at the venue due to the woeful conditions of its facilities that renders the country without an approved stadium meaning Ghana has to play its “home” game against Sudan away from home.

Cote D’Ivoire has been reportedly penned down as the most likely destination to host the aforementioned game as scheduling issues are likely rule out Togo from hosting Ghana’s game. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Speaking in a hard hitting interview where he slammed the GFA’s role in this tragedy by calling on the Association to not focus on money but on player welfare particularly players connected to the Black Stars, Boateng expressed his sadness over Ghana’s stadium troubles. “It’s so sad that we are in that kind of situation right now. We don’t have to be there. Ghana now has to find a field to play a home game, oh come on. We are too much for that so for me it’s really sad to hear something like that.”
