Football legend Asamoah Gyan has seemingly disassociated himself from any political affiliations particularly those in connection to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Through a statement released by the Black Stars former captain on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Gyan stated that his vision is to empower the youth of Ghana and Africa through sports and philanthropy and added that “this is not about politics; I am fully independent from political influence.”

This statement comes on the back of Asamoah Gyan being named on NPP Presidential Candidate for the 2024 Ghana Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s, Manifesto Committee. (Click highlighted text to read full story).

Gyan was confirmed as the lead constituent on Dr. Bawumia’s Committee for Youth and Sports in February this year with the likes of Dr. Assibey Yeboah in charge of Economy and Tony Oteng Gyasi in charge of Trade and Industry on Dr. Bawumia’s Manifesto Committee.

The reason for Gyan’s shock revelation is yet to be determined at the time of writing; Gyan is Ghana’s all time lead goal scorer and played at three FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

I HAVEN’T BEEN FAIR TO THE YOUTH AND THE PEOPLE OF GHANA. HENCE FORTH I AM NOT AFFILIATED TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY, I WILL CONTINUE WITH MY HUMANITARIAN WORK AND HELP THE YOUTH OF GHANA IN MY OWN SMALL WAY. NOTHING POLITICAL, I WISH ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES A PEACEFUL ELECTION ON… pic.twitter.com/lfiWalvJQA
