“I am ok with CAF’s decision to ban Baba Yara Sports Stadium” – Abdul Karim Zito

A former Black Stars player and the current coach of Dreams FC, Abdul Karim Zito has expressed his support for CAF’s decision to revoke the Baba Yara Sports Stadium license from hosting international matches until it undergoes necessary renovations.

CAF’s ruling followed Ghana’s defeat to Angola and was issued on Wednesday, September 11.

This decision means that Ghana’s upcoming matches will be held outside the country.

Ghana is scheduled to face Sudan on October 11 and 15 in two key matches as part of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

OK, so let me say this, I’m OK with that, with this decision by CAF.

Yes, because this will help us to do it, to do things better. Because it’s like, today we go to Baba Yara, we play there, next time, there is trouble.

During the African Confederation, when I went to Rwanda, I look at the facility I say we are far back.

Far, far, far, far back. Even the dressing room of the coaches alone tells you something.

Following CAF’s decision deeming the Baba Yara Stadium unfit to host international football matches, Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request CAF to inspect the Legon Stadium as an alternative venue.

This directive was issued in a statement by the Sports Ministry on Thursday, September 12, in response to the ban on the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Legon Stadium was renovated for the 2023 African Games, and in addition to hosting various athletics events, several football matches were held during the competition.
