In the wake of the ruling of the Baba Yara Stadium as unfit to host international football games by Africa’s football governing body, CAF, Ghana Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, has directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to inform CAF to inspect the Legon Stadium as an alternative.

This directive was communicated in a statement released by the Sports Ministry on Thursday, September 12 in response to the ban of the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

The ruling on the Baba Yara Stadium came on the back of the Black Stars 1-0 loss to Angola in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The Legon Stadium was renovated to host the 2023 African Games and aside hosting several athletics competitions, a couple of football games were held at the venue during the competition.

In the statement, the Sports Ministry added that a request has also been communicated to CAF via the GFA to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium for its availability to host Category 3 games like the 2025 AFCON qualifiers Ghana is engaged in.

The Accra Sports Stadium recently hosted a series of Category 2 games that had Ghana’s representatives in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, FC Samartex and Nsoatreman FC respectively, compete in.
