Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, says he is excited about the hype over the club’s offseason recruits because they are quality players and deserve such hype.
He said this ahead of the club’s 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season opener against Karela United in Nalerigu on Sunday, September 8 at 17:00 GMT.
Kotoko head into the new season under serious pressure following a disappointing 2023-2024 campaign that had the Porcupine Warriors finish sixth.
In the offseason, 21 players exited the club including Uganda striker Steven Mukwala with 12 signings made to replace them including highly sought after players like Emmanuel Antwi formerly of Accra Great Olympics.
“I think the hype is good for the players. They deserve it because of how good quality they are in terms of their ability to play so to me, I’m excited that they are having the hype around them. What is left now is their ability to control the hype because…people will be expecting more from them.”
“As a technical staff too we need to try as much as possible to engage them meaningfully so that they stay confident, they make the best of simple decisions on the field so that it will help them settle into the Kumasi Asante Kotoko game.”
