Otto Addo, head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars, has delivered a blunt view on the expectations for his team’s matchup against Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Addo believes that his team must beat Sudan to stand a chance of qualifying to the 2025 AFCON that will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. Sudan is coached by former Black Stars player and head coach, James Kwasi Appiah.
However, the Black Stars chances of making it to the tournament are slim after losing 1-0 to Angola and drawing 1-1 with Niger two games into its campaign in Group F.
Ghana ranks third in the group behind Sudan (three points) and Angola (six points) and take on Sudan in back to back games on October 11 and 15 respectively and Addo believes Ghana must win those games.
“Some little margins, some little details which can decide. For us, it will be a crucial match. We have to win (against Sudan). There is no way around that we have to win. If we want to have the chance to qualify for the AFCON, we have to win, we are under pressure.”
“We have to do better and not allowing too cheap goals but surely it’s still in our own hands (qualification to 2025 AFCON) but we have to win the next game.”
