Ghana’s representative in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), Spintex Knights Basketball Club, have qualified to the Elite 16 stage.

Knights moved a step closer to competing in the main competition of the continental championship that is owned by the NBA by progressing from the preliminary round played out in Libya.

Despite losing 69-73 to Mighty Barolle Basketball Club from Liberia in its final West Division Group B game, Knights finished second in the group to progress.

Lead scorer James Amotoe missed out on a triple double after registering 27 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 35:30 minutes.

Knights, Barolle and Elan Coton of Benin finished with the same record (a win and two losses) but a better game points difference got Knights to pick up the group’s second qualification ticket.

Group leaders Abidjan Fighters, who won all three games including its 94-66 win over Elan Coton in its final group game, topped the group.

This is the first time a Ghanaian club has made it to the Elite 16 stage; Braves of Customs were the first club to represent Ghana in the BAL but missed out on progressing from the 2019 edition early stages.
