After making a very promising start to the 2024-2025 English Premier League, Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has had to endure limited game time in recent weeks.
The 20 year old winger started in three straight games to open the season but has had to come off the bench in the remaining four in the league with each substitute appearance seeing him playing fewer minutes.
His last three appearances for Leicester in the league had him playing just a minute of football on two occasions and eight minutes in a 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth off the bench.
Speaking in an interview, Leicester City manager, Steve Cooper addressed the issue by indicating the team’s depth in the wing areas as a factor behind Issahaku’s limited appearances.
“That question could be for anybody who doesn’t start. We have a squad. Everybody’s working hard. We have a team that will start and players that will finish. Abdul’s a really good young player, really exciting, a good attitude, a nice kid, and he’s got a really bright future in front of him.”
Issahaku featured off the bench in Ghana’s goalless draw with Sudan in Accra in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Ghana plays Sudan again on Tuesday, October at 15:00 GMT.
