Ghana’s Spintex Knights Basketball Club will compete in the Elite 16 stage of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) after securing qualification from the preliminary stage.
The Elite 16 stage takes place in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire from November 5 to November 10.
Knights’ four point loss to Mighty Barolle from Liberia was just enough to keep them in second place in the West Division’s Group B to qualify.
Cote D’Ivoire’s Abidjan Fighters Basketball Club won all three games to top Group B and qualify in first place. Al-Ahli Tripoli from Libya and Stade Malien from Mali qualified from Group A.
Another highlight of Knights qualification was swingman James Amotoe’s sterling performances for Spintex as the Accra Basketball League MVP delivered on the international stage.
In Knights 82-69 win over Elan Coton from Benin, Amotoe registered 28 points, nine rebounds and three assists in 25:59 minutes.
Against Abidjan, Amotoe bagged a 22 point, 10 rebound double-double but missed out on a triple double in the loss to Barolle after putting together a 27 point, nine rebound and seven assists performance.
He ended the competition averaging 25.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists across three games.
