Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has stated that proximity played a role in the decision to place competing teams in the preliminary round of the FA Cup into zones.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after the first round of games for the 2024-2025 FA Cup season was confirmed.
The draw had interesting derbies set up with Northern City FC taking on Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday, October 27 with Swedru All Blacks taking on Elmina Sharks and Techiman Eleven Wonders playing Nsuatre FC.
After sounding off about his excitement for the multiple derbies set to take place in the first round of the competition, the veteran administrator added that,
“Yes that (proximity) played a major role in how we positioned them. You realized that all the Ashanti (based) teams were put in a different group and then the Western and Central teams were put in another group. So proximity was considered.”
Nsoatreman FC are the defending champions.
