Owner and bankroller of Access Bank Division One side Skyy FC, Wilson Arthur, continues to advocate for only committed players to be called to the Black Stars.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of serious criticism over the level of commitment of Black Stars players over poor performances against lowly ranked nations.

Ghana drew 1-1 with Niger, drew goalless with Sudan and lost 2-0 to Sudan in the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers with many attributed the poor attitude by players as a major factor for the poor results.

“National teams you would expect that we will wallop them four nil, six nil are beating us all of a sudden and it is because…they are using a lot of their local players so they are able to camp longer and they are able to play as a team as a unit. What we are doing is inviting people to come and play. Most of them are not hungry. They don’t want it so much” Wilson Arthur said and added that

MTN FA Cup Chairman Wilson Arthur

“There are players who are playing in the Ghana Premier League, who are playing in Tanzania League, who are playing in Rwandan League, who are playing in other African leagues who will cherish the opportunity to play at the African stage. Those are the players I’m saying that maybe we should expand the Black Stars who are local, as in Africa and Ghana, and have the exceptionally good players in Europe to come and join them.”

“We need to take players who are really committed. Trust me I believe that this Sudanese team… Dreams FC can beat this team, Medeama this team trust me and even Samartex can beat this Sudanese team.”
