Running unopposed, Mr. Deen was declared the winner by Madam Abigail D.A Nutakor, the Presiding Officer from Ghana’s electoral commission.
Samson Deen first took office in 2019 after narrowly defeating Shabaan Mohammed, the Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Association, by a close margin of seven votes to six.
Deen outlined his vision for enhancing Ghana’s participation at the upcoming Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
He emphasized the members’ confidence in his leadership and expressed excitement about the new energy and approach needed to ensure Ghana’s presence at the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
“Our main goal as the NPC board is to build a strong foundation for para-sports associations in Ghana. With this, we can develop world-class athletes who can compete on the global stage. We’ll need everyone’s support to take para-sports to greater heights,” he stated.
During his first term, Ghana hosted the first-ever African Para Games, where the Black Challenge (Amputee Football Team) triumphed.
Earlier this year, the Ghana Amputee team also won the African title, defeating hosts Morocco.
Deen played a key role in securing Ghana’s qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
In addition to his role in Ghana, Deen serves as President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC), where he recently secured 24 votes, defeating Morocco’s Hamid El Aouni, who garnered 15 votes, to succeed Leonel da Rocha Pinto, the APC’s leader for 13 years.
In the NPC Ghana elections, Evans Yeboah was elected as Vice President, Henry Larbi as Secretary, and Richard Teinor as Treasurer.
Additionally, four executive members—Iddriss Ayishatu Farida, Foster Kwarteng, Mary Apedo, and Anthony Gyening—were chosen to complete the board.
