Team Ghana’s Medal Count Surges at Para Games

Team Ghana delivered another outstanding performance on Day Five of the maiden West Africa Zone A & B Para Games in Abeokuta, Nigeria, securing medals across multiple disciplines and marking new milestones in the country’s para sports history.

The biggest highlight of the day came from Ghana’s Sitting Volleyball team, who clinched bronze in their first-ever international appearance.

Led by head coach Seidu Ajanako, the debutants; Rashad Mohammed Rahmat, Faisal Sey, Nfodzo Patrick, Eric Agyekum, Fadiga Mohammed, Christian Asamoah, Fatawu Chambers, Alfred Asiedu Bosu, and Christian Fiashide recovered from an earlier defeat to Nigeria to seal a place on the podium and secure Ghana’s first medal in the sport.

In Para Table Tennis, the pair of Abdul Aziz Abbey and Isaac Ampofo added to the tally with a well-fought bronze in the doubles category.

Ghana’s charge continued in Para Shooting, where Emmanuel Amobire claimed gold in the rifle event, extending the country’s medal momentum.

There was more success on the court as the Wheelchair Basketball teams delivered two silver medals—one in the Women’s division and another in the mixed category.

Wheelchair Tennis emerged as one of Ghana’s strongest disciplines on the day, producing six medals:

  • Bridget Nartey – bronze (women’s singles)
  • Stacy Konadu Mensah – silver (women’s singles)
  • Nartey & Mensah – silver (women’s doubles)
  • Daniel Laryea & Bernard Yawson – silver (men’s doubles)
  • Laryea & Mensah – bronze (mixed doubles)
  • Wasila Baba – silver (quad event)

In Para Athletics, Ghana added five more medals:

  • Addai Hayford – silver (T46/47 400m, 53.05s)
  • Koffie Bright – bronze (T46/47 400m, 58.05s)
  • Hussien Abdul Gafar – bronze (T53/54 1500m, 4:41.17)
  • Botsyo Nkegbe – silver (T53/54 400m)
  • Kwubetegr Diana – bronze (T46/47/38 women’s 400m, 75.28s)

Ghana entered the day with 16 medals and has now doubled that figure, bringing the confirmed tally to 32 medals as the Games head toward their conclusion on December 3.
