“Cost of stadia upgrades will be disclosed after Parliamentary session”– NSA Board Chair

The Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum has announced that the full cost of renovation work at various national stadia will be made public after discussions with Parliament.

The Accra Sports Stadium has undergone significant improvements since the renovation began after Ghana’s loss against Angola in the AFCON Qualifiers back in September.

The NSA had temporarily closed this stadium, along with other key venues such as the Baba Yara Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium, for essential repairs.

This decision came after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked its temporary approval for Baba Yara Stadium to host Category 3 games, following Ghana’s loss to Angola in their opening AFCON qualifier, which highlighted issues with the pitch’s poor condition.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) was then under pressure to secure an acceptable venue for the critical qualifier.

When questioned about the cost of the Accra Sports Stadium renovations, Seth Panwum declined to provide specific figures, noting that details would be shared after Parliament has been informed.

I think as we’ve rightly said, you see that the work is ongoing and when work is ongoing you don’t apportion cost, you know, and it’s nothing so special about the work that is ongoing.

It’s mostly more routine, you know, and a lot of urgency and effort has been put into maintaining this standard.

I think at the right time, currently as we speak, auditors are working, you know, with the finance department looking into their books and to produce a financial statement of the authority.

So all this will be factored and it will be public domain because we are supposed to present such a report to parliament and once it’s submitted to parliament, it becomes a public document.
