Black Queens Coach Nora Häuptle raises concerns over WAFCON preparations amid exit rumors

Black Queens head coach, Nora Hauptle, has voiced her dissatisfaction with the team’s insufficient preparations ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Ghana’s national women’s team has not engaged in any friendly matches during the last two international windows, hindering their readiness for the continental showpiece. Plans for friendly matches against Senegal and Tunisia last month fell through due to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports failing to approve the required budget.

This setback has been compounded by reports suggesting Hauptle’s imminent departure from her role after declining a contract renewal.

Speculation indicates she could be heading to Zambia following the departure of their coach, Bruce Mwape.

Adding fuel to the rumours, Hauptle shared a post on LinkedIn highlighting Ghana’s lack of preparation compared to other nations.

She lamented that the Black Queens have played only three matches in 2024, a stark contrast to what is needed for proper readiness for the tournament.

The situation leaves uncertainty surrounding both the team’s future and Hauptle’s role as head coach.
