Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has been confirmed as the Germany national team’s player of the year, as he beat Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz, who made up the top 3, to the award.

This is not the first time that Musiala has won the prestigious award, having also done so in 2022. Bayern players have won this award for four of the last five years, with Manuel Neuer doing so in 2020, and Kimmich winning in 2021.

For Germany in 2024, the 21-year old played 13 times, and scored an impressive five goals. This was despite playing a lot of these games on the right wing, as manager Julian Nagelsmann tried to fit him, Wirtz, and İlkay Gündoğan into the same team.

The retirement of the latter has made things a bit more convenient for Musiala, who is now playing more off the left hand side.

Whilst that still isn’t his natural position, it feels closer to getting the best out of him than playing on the right hand side.

As well as his five goals, the Bayern number 42 has also provided a further five assists, making it 10 goal contributions in just 13 games.

Considering the level in the national team, with players such as Wirtz, Antonio Rüdiger, Kimmich, and others – it is a high compliment that he has been able to trump all of them and win this award for the second time in three years.
