Asante Kotoko proved too strong for Vision FC on Sunday, January 19, 2025, securing a commanding 4-1 victory in the final game of the 17th round of the Ghana Premier League.

At the Baba Yara Stadium, returnee striker Kwame Opoku starred with a brace, while Peter Amidu Acquah and Saaka Dauda added a goal each for the Porcupine Warriors.

Vision FC’s Nana Kwesi managed to pull one back in the 22nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the record league holders.

The victory elevates the two-time African champions to 31 points, placing them 3rd on the league table—one point behind second-place Nations FC and two behind leaders Gold Stars as the first round concludes.

Meanwhile, in Samreboi, Hearts of Oak extended their winless record against Samartex with a hard-fought goalless draw at the Nsenkyire Arena.

The home side dominated the first half, creating numerous chances but failing to find the net, thanks in part to a stellar performance by Hearts’ goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Samartex continued their dominance in the second half, controlling the game and creating more opportunities, but their finishing woes persisted.

Hearts of Oak managed to hold on for a point, marking their first-ever draw in Samreboi. The Phobians now sit in 5th place with 29 points.
