Arne Slot has given an update on forward Diogo Jota’s latest injury. Jota was unable to feature against Brentford after suffering what the manager described as a muscle overload.
When asked about Jota ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Lille he gave a timeline for the Portuguese forward and teammate Joe Gomez:
“Maybe just a bit earlier than Joe and both of them are expected to be back with us in weeks, not in months. So, like I’ve said many times before. that the last stage of rehab is the most difficult one, or the one that can sometimes add a few days or not. But it’s clear that we are expecting them to be back with us in the upcoming weeks.”

He added that injuries are unpredictable but considering the nature of the problems there was no long-term issue:
“But it’s always difficult to say exactly how long it is, but both of them are not going to be out for months, that’s for sure. As long as the rehab goes, as planned, of course.”

Despite making only 11 starts Jota has 8 goals for Liverpool in all competitions this season and is scoring 0.75 goals per 90, the same as Mohamed Salah for Liverpool, however, he has only managed 33.4% of his side’s available minutes in all competitions showing how little he has featured this season despite his immense contributions when he does play.

Liverpool could potentially secure top spot in the league phase of the Champions League if they beat Lille and Barcelona fail to beat Benfica.
