“Take your destiny into your hands” – Kudjoe Fianoo to Ghanaian Clubs

The outgoing President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, has expressed deep concerns over the declining image of the welfare body. He has called on member clubs to “take their destiny into their own hands” to address the challenges facing the association and restore its relevance.

In recently concluded 2025 GHALCA elections, Kudjoe Fianoo lamented that GHALCA, once a formidable institution, has now been relegated to a secondary role in Ghanaian football administration; a situation he believes has left some clubs dissatisfied.

They should take their own destiny to their own hands. They are not taking it… And apart from the GFA, they play second fiddle to GHALCA. I must be honest.

People are not even interested.

What really broke my heart was when we had some vacancies that I wanted to fill.

A young man was approached and said, ‘GHALCA, what are that doing?’

I think that we should change the narrative,”

Fianoo said, expressing his dismay at the lack of enthusiasm for the organization.

Despite these challenges, Fianoo highlighted GHALCA’s significant influence in the past, particularly in shaping sports policies at the national level.

“We should change the narrative about GHALCA” -Kudjoe Fianoo is not too pleased with what people say about the welfare body for the GHANA PL Clubs.

He emphasized that the body has played an instrumental role in advising political parties during the preparation of their manifestos.

“This body is a very powerful body.

The major political parties, when they were preparing their manifestos, GHALCA was called to make inputs.

We were with the NPP manifesto committee.

We also went to the NDC manifesto committee and we came out with very cogent proposals, and if government should accept them, their clubs would be the beneficiaries.

So we should not put all our eggs into one basket. This is a welfare body,” he added.

For Thursday’s election, John Ansah, the former Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), was elected as the new Chairman of the association.

The highly anticipated election was held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, drawing significant attention from stakeholders across Ghanaian football.

The chairmanship race was a closely followed two-horse contest between John Ansah and renowned sports lawyer, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson.

Ansah, who reportedly enjoyed the backing of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, secured a decisive victory. Out of a total of 132 votes cast, he polled an impressive 96 votes, while Koomson garnered 35 votes.

Ansah’s election marks the end of the Kudjoe Fianoo-led administration and ushers in a new era of leadership for GHALCA.
