Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Iddie Adams has urged the media to play a pivotal role in branding sports to attract sponsorship and drive development.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) at his office on Wednesday, he emphasized that sports is a significant industry and the media’s support is crucial for its growth in the country.

The visit was to welcome him as the new minister officially.

The Minister outlined President John Mahama’s vision to develop sports from the grassroots, highlighting upcoming reforms to revive community sports and restore school sports programs.

He acknowledged funding as a persistent challenge but assured that his ministry would explore innovative solutions to bridge the gap.

Kofi Adams, also the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, welcomed constructive criticism from the media, noting it would help him improve as a Minister.

However, he encouraged them to balance criticism with motivation, particularly for national sports teams, and pledged an open-door policy for ongoing collaboration.

SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah, who led the delegation, thanked the minister for his warm reception and pledged the association’s support to ensure his success.

He emphasized SWAG’s commitment to working closely with the ministry to build the sports brand and urged the minister to maintain an open, welcoming stance toward the media.

Yeboah also encouraged Hon. Adams to prioritize collaboration with various sporting disciplines, especially making Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup a personal mission.

The SWAG delegation included Vice President Evelyn Nsiah-Asare, Secretary-General Charles Osei Asibey, Deputy Secretary-General Kenneth Odeng Adade, Women’s Commissioner Mavis Amanor, and Executive Board Members Augustine Kwabena Ohene-Bampoe Brenya, Franklin Anane-Gyimah, and Tilda Elinam Acorlor. They were received by Mr. William Kartey, Chief Director of the ministry.
