Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has highlighted key issues regarding the amendment of the Betting Tax and has gone further to state that amendment he has spearheaded has delivered more than what his National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party promised in its manifesto prior to winning the 2024 Ghana Elections.
He said this while addressing Ghana’s Parliament on amending the controversial tax that has generated several debates prominently the debate between the Minister of Finance and immediate past Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam. (Click highlighted text to read story)
“Mr. Speaker, in our manifesto, we promised to remove betting tax, which is a sub component of the lottery tax-withholding tax on the lottery-. Mr. Speaker, what we have done, is that we have not only exempted or removed the tax on betting but we have also removed the tax on gaming and also on lotteries, the everyday lotto so Mr. Speaker it’s three in one and should not be construed that this tax is only removing taxes on betting” Dr. Forson stated.

Dr. Ato Forson went on to announce the abolishment of the Betting Tax on his X (formerly Twitter) page.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Investors,
Parliament has just passed the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which abolishes the ‘Betting Tax’ and other levies.
I have no doubt that H.E. President John Dramani Mahama will be more than willing to sign it into law without delay.
