Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has lavished praise on Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare over his brilliant performance in his debut run with Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars.
Asare started for the Black Stars in Ghana’s 5-0 win over Chad and a 3-0 win over Madagascar in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and despite the rivalry between the two clubs, Dr. Ogum was effusive about what Asare’s performance means for the Ghana League.
“It is a clear indication that there are other players in the local league who when given the necessary opportunity, the right opportunity, will also be able to showcase their talent. The Ghana Premier League has quality; people think that there is no quality in the Ghana Premier League, there is quality.”

“These are the very players who play here and they just cross the borders of this country and then in the next six or seven months, we are calling them to come and play for the Black Stars. Look at somebody like Razak Simpson; very good player. If you give him the opportunity, he will and we saw it when we were playing the AFCON qualifiers when he was given the opportunity.”

Dr. Ogum made this statement in a pre-game interview as Kotoko prepare to play against True Democracy in the MTN FA Cup quarterfinals on Sunday, March 30 at 19:00 GMT.

Ghana is in pole position to top Group I and progress to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
