Founder of Africa Tennis Connect Foundation, Naa Shika Adu, has stated that the organization is aiming to make tennis more accessible particularly to less privileged people.
She said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports when the aforementioned organization celebrated International Women’s Day by holding its Street Tennis Program via a collaboration with DUNK Grassroots.
The program was held at Agege, a suburb in Ghana’s capital, Accra and according Naa Shika Adu, this is aimed at wiping out the perception that tennis is a sport for only rich people.
“I realized that tennis is a sport that is for the privileged and unfortunately, the people who make up our national team…usually are not even aware that there is a sport like tennis that they can get involved in. For us, bringing tennis to the street, was to make sure that we can now take tennis to communities like this (Agege) and make it accessible” she said and added that

“It looks like trying to get people to come all the way to the tennis court and playing the traditional tennis is quite difficult and hasn’t proven very useful in terms of raising national players… so that’s basically how this whole things started.”
