Ghana’s Para-Athletics Community celebrated a triumphant moment as Foster Kwarteng, President of the Ghana Para Athletics Association, presented international medals to Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC-Ghana), and the African Paralympic Committee on behalf of the nation and its para-sport community.
The ceremony, held in Accra, honoured the remarkable achievements of 16-year-old Gilbert Ampiah and national record-holder Zinabu Issah at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.
Stellar Performances in Marrakech
Gilbert Ampiah and Zinabu Issah shone on the global stage, securing three medals at the prestigious Marrakech competition, a key qualifier for the upcoming Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.
Gilbert Ampiah: A Rising Star
At just 16, Gilbert Ampiah, representing St. Augustine’s College, claimed his first international medal—a bronze in the Men’s T44 High Jump—with an impressive clearance of 1.73 meters. His dedication, resilience, and extraordinary talent mark him as a beacon of hope for Ghanaian para-athletics.

Zinabu Issah: Record-Breaking Excellence
Zinabu Issah, a multiple medallist and national record-holder, added to Ghana’s glory with a gold medal in the Women’s F57 Discus Throw, setting a record of 29.25 meters, and a silver in the F57 Shot Put with a throw of 8.54 meters. Her performances underscore her status as a dominant force in para-athletics.
The medal presentation symbolised gratitude and ambition, reaffirming Ghana’s vision to become a continental powerhouse in para-sports.
NPC-Ghana President Samson Deen praised the athletes’ excellence, urging young Ghanaians with disabilities to “dream big, train hard, and aim for global podiums.”
The achievements of Gilbert and Zinabu not only celebrate personal triumphs but also position Ghana as a rising force in international para-athletics.
