Ghana’s U-20 men’s national team, the Black Satellites, have been drawn into a challenging Group C at the upcoming 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they will face defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic.

The revised draw, conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday, April 13, 2025, followed the withdrawal of Côte d’Ivoire as tournament hosts.

Egypt has since stepped in to stage the prestigious youth competition, which will run from April 27 to May 18, 2025.

The restructured tournament will feature 13 teams from across the continent, divided into three groups — one comprising five teams and the remaining two featuring four teams each.

The top two sides from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-final stage.

Group C is already being touted as one of the most competitive of the tournament, with Ghana set to battle reigning champions Senegal, a side that lifted the trophy in style in 2023.

The Black Satellites will also contend with the physical challenge of DR Congo and the growing threat posed by the Central African Republic.

Senegal U-20 is lifting the trophy

The CAF U-20 AFCON has a rich legacy of unearthing African football’s next big stars. Previous editions have served as launching pads for global icons such as Mohamed Salah, André Ayew, and Victor Osimhen.

As the continent’s finest young talents prepare to light up Egyptian stadiums, Ghana will be aiming to revive its illustrious youth football pedigree and reclaim its place among the elite.
