Ghana’s chances of qualifying to the quarterfinals of the 2025 CAF Under-20 Men’s AFCON got a huge boost late on Monday, May 5 after the Black Satellites picked up a vital win over pre-tournament favourites Senegal.
The Black Satellites beat defending champions Senegal 1-0 in the Group C matchup thanks to a sharp finish from Emmanuel Mensah in the 14th minute.
Mensah swept the ball into right side of the net with his left foot after getting played in by a beautiful find from Jerry Afriyie.
Afriyie, who has had a run with Ghana’s Senior National Men’s Team-the Black Stars-recently, missed a big chance to put Ghana ahead 2-0.
The CD Lugo forward marked his debut goal contribution in the tournament after starting off the bench in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with D.R. Congo in the opening round.

Highly rated midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah also made his tournament debut start in the win over Senegal; the win places Ghana in second place behind D.R. Congo but both nations have four points.

The Congolese bagged a 3-1 win over Central African Republic (C.A.R.) in the other Group C game. Ghana plays C.A.R. on Thursday, May 8 at 18:00 GMT.
