Praise Be To God- Abdul Rasheed Saminu after setting new national 100 Metre Record

Ghana sprinter Abdul Rasheed Saminu has set a new national record after delivering a blistering run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Saminu ran a time of 9.86 seconds to beat the national record of 9.90 seconds held by Benjamin Azamati since 2022 and continues a fine run of form for the University of South Florida athlete this year; Prior to smashing the national record, Saminu run a time 9.87 seconds (wind assisted).

Saminu’s latest feat has earned him a spot in this year’s World Athletics Championship that will be held in Tokyo, Japan in September.

Reacting to the feat, Saminu wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page, “Alhamdulillah”- (Praise Be to God).

Former national record holder Azamati recently secured his spot in the Athletics Championship by running a time of 9.98 seconds at the McNabb Sprint Series on May 23 with his time representing a personal best for the two time Olympian.

Both men are likely to compete for Ghana in the Men’s 4X100 Relay at the World Championship after Ghana secured qualification on the second day of competition at the World Relays held in Guangzhou, China.
