Former Ghana U-17 World Cup winner and Accra Hearts of Oak legend Charles Allotey has taken a swipe at the current Black Satellites squad, questioning their mentality and desire after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Ghana crashed out of the tournament qualifiers after a dramatic penalty 5-4 shootout loss to Egypt, following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Allotey believes the players lacked the hunger and aggression required at this level stating,
“They are not angry enough for the cup even though they were playing, when you looked at their faces, you could tell they weren’t fighting for it. When Egypt scored the two goals, it came from our own mistakes.”
According to him, complacency also played a role in the loss, as the Ghanaian side underestimated Egypt based on the North Africans’ earlier performances in the tournament.

After we equalized, why not push for a third goal and secure the win but they became complacent and assumed they would beat Egypt. That’s not how competitions work. Anytime you step into a tournament, you have to treat every opponent like a threat and be ready to beat them.

Ghana’s exit means the Black Satellites have not qualified to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup since 2015.
