The 2025 West African University Sports Federation (WAUSF) Games’ local organising committee (LOC) has officially been launched at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The University of Ghana, for the second time, is scheduled to host the 2025 West African University Games (WAUG) from 1st to 15th October, 2025.

The 16-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) is headed by Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, who serves as both the Chairperson and Registrar of the University of Ghana.

The team also features Dr. Austin Luguterah, the Vice-Chairperson, along with distinguished members such as Professors Matilda Steiner-Asiedu (Department of Food & Nutrition), George Akanlig-Pare (Department of Linguistics), Mahmoud Abdulai Mahmoud (UGBS), and Abdallah Ali-Nakya (School of Law).

Other members include academic and administrative professionals from diverse backgrounds, such as Prof. Clement Appah (Department of Linguistics), Dr. Elizier Ameyaw Buronyah (Director of Public Affairs), and Dr. Richard Dey (University Health Services).

The committee also consists of sports and logistics experts like Mr. Yaw Sakyi Afari (CEO, Rite Sports), Mr. Samuel Alphonse Etsibah (Fleet Manager, PDMSD), and Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah (Director, Academic Affairs).

Mr. Augustine Amissare, the Secretary and Senior Assistant Registrar at SWD, will also play a key role in the preparation and coordination of the event.

Speaking to the media, the Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana, Dr. Austin Wontepaga Luguterah, expressed strong confidence in their ability to successfully host the sporting event, emphasising that the university is well-equipped for the task.

“This time is so special because the first time the University of Ghana hosted it, we did not have standard facilities like now. We can boast of top-notch facilities that have been tested.

We have just been fortunate that last year this facility hosted Africa and in recent times hosted CAF programs so these facilities and hostels are still in shape and I can tell you we are ready” he said.

The West African University Games’ theme, “Unite, Compete, and Inspire,” embodies the spirit of unity, friendly competition, and mutual inspiration that defines the event, ultimately elevating university sports across West Africa.
