Nations Football Club have released an official statement detailing the reasons behind the club’s decision to abandon its Ghana Premier League (GPL) tie against Basake Holy Stars.

The Kumasi based team abandoned the Round 33 matchup against Holy Stars at Ayinase in the first half after registering their displeasure over a penalty incident. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Nations trailed Holy Stars 1-0 after conceding a penalty in the 32nd minute and abandoned the game after heated conversations from players and officials of the club with opposing players and game officials after a second penalty was called against Nations a few minutes after the first penalty incident.

In a statement issues by the club on Sunday, June 1, Nations highlighted concerns over security and officiating as major reasons for abandoning the league contest.

“The level of officiating was extremely poor and fell well below the expected standard. This compromised the fairness and credibility of the match, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the competition” a portion of the statement read.

Nations led the league standings with three points and needed a win in one of their last two league games to win their first ever league title.
