President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah, has stated that it is the prerogative of the sitting President of Ghana [John Dramani Mahama] to determine the teams that compete in the President’s Cup.

He said this to provide clarity over the selection of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak as the participating teams in this year’s competition.

The official launch of the competition that is scheduled to be played on July 6 at the Accra Sports Stadium was held on Thursday, June 12 and had the likes of Director at the Ministry of Sports, William Katey and representatives of the competing clubs present at the launch.

In last year’s event, Kotoko lost to Cote D’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi following the directive from then President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo as a means to celebrate the friendship between the neighbouring countries.
