Chief Executive Officer of Nations FC, Kwame Twumasi Danquah, has explained that the club delayed and ultimately abandoned their Ghana Premier League match against Basake Holy Stars at AAK Ampain II Sports Arena after encountering serious security concerns in matchweek 33.

Supporters around the VIP section had begun directing insults and threats at the visiting side before kick-off, creating a hostile environment that left both players and officials feeling unsafe.

Danquah said the team raised the issue with the match commissioner before kick-off, refusing to play until proper security was in place.

Basake Holy Stars is trending in Ghana because the football club is currently receiving attention following the eruption of chaos midway through a match against Nations FC.

We hadn’t started the game because we made a complaint that the policemen at the venue were not enough. We couldn’t take that risk,” he explained.

Faced with hostile fans and a clear breach of security commitments, Nations FC’s officials appealed to match authorities. Despite repeated requests, no additional officers materialized, leaving players exposed.

With safety concerns mounting, Danquah confirmed the club’s leadership decided to abandon the match in protest.

We could not risk our players’ and staff’s well-being,” he said, noting that the refusal to play began roughly 15–20 minutes after the scheduled 3 pm kickoff.

Nations Fc’s statement after Fiasco

The incident raises serious concerns about matchday security in Ghana’s football venues, and Nations FC has called for accountability from the organizers and relevant authorities.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to review the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.
