Head coach of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has stated that he had a plan for penalty shootouts for his team in the lead up to Ghana’s quarterfinal game against Algeria.

Ghana beat Algeria 4-2 on penalties in this year’s CAF Women’s AFCON to progress to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

The Black Queens battled to a hard fought goalless draw against the North Africans at the end of regulation time and extra time before prevailing on penalties thanks to two saves from goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.

Speaking in a post-game interview, Kim Bjorkegren relayed information regarding the team’s preparation for penalties stating,

“Of course we played penalties in training so I had a plan for it before we took them. Cynthia [Konlan] is someone I’ve been talking to a lot when it comes to penalties.”

“Try to move a little bit, try to be a little bit bigger, show that you really want to make the saves. It’s so fun to see how many great saves she made and was a really big hero for us today.”
