Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, have the chance to reap the bumper financial benefits from competing in this year’s CAF Women’s AFCON in the wake of a significant increase in prize money for the tournament.

The Black Queens are set to open their campaign in the competition with a Group C tie against defending champions South Africa slated for Monday, July 7 at 16:00 GMT.

In the lead up to the big game, CAF announced that the prize money for winning the championship has been increased to a million dollars.

The first runner-up, second runner-up and fourth placed nations will receive $500,000, $350,000 and $300,000 respectively.

12 nations are competing in the tournament that commenced on July 5 and is scheduled to end on July 26 in Morocco. Host nation Morocco drew 2-2 with Zambia in the opening game.
