National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has stated that the ABSA Black Star Marathon has come to stay and will get better.
He made this statement on the sidelines of the 2025 edition of the marathon held at the Black Star Square in Ghana’s capital, Accra, on Saturday, July 26.
The event had recreational runners, para-athletes and professional marathon runners compete in various forms of marathon racing while covering race courses that run through the capital city.
President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, headlined the event and in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony, he stated that the competition will be added to Ghana’s Tourism Calendar moving forward. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

On his part, the NSA Director-General highlighted the benefits of staging such a competition in Ghana hence the need to maintain it and grow it.
“We have a wide variety of participants, it’s really good to see. This marathon is definitely here to stay and it will get better and better. Beyond the race itself, the ecosystem of sports [around the event] is really vibrant” he said.
