The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as the new head coach of the national U17 team, the Black Starlets.

He replaces Coach Frimpong Manso, who steps aside to focus on club duties with Bibiani GoldStars ahead of their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League.

Dr. Ogum’s appointment comes ahead of the WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship in Nigeria this September ; a key qualifier for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. In addition to the coaching role, he will also serve as the GFA’s new Head of Coach Education, taking over from Desmond Ofei.

The GFA expressed gratitude to Coach Manso for his service to youth football and commended his role in leading GoldStars to a historic Ghana Premier League title.

Dr. Ogum brings a proven track record and a wealth of experience. He guided Asante Kotoko to a GPL title, led WAFA to a second-place finish, and previously served as assistant coach of the Black Galaxies.

He is widely respected for his tactical acumen and commitment to talent development.

Preparations for the WAFU tournament are already underway, and Dr. Ogum is expected to quickly assemble a competitive squad to return Ghana to continental prominence.
