Sudan National Men’s Football Team head coach James Kwesi Appiah has ambitions of leading the team beyond the quarterfinals of this year’s CHAN.
Appiah’s Sudan take on Algeria in the quarterfinals of the continental championship on Saturday, August 23 at 17:00 GMT with Sudan heading into the contest as underdogs.
Speaking in a pre-game press conference, Appiah clearly made it known that his team has ambitions of playing beyond the quarterfinals.
“The goal is not to arrive at this level and return home. Every single coach’s ambition would be to do better and make the people happy. It’s going to be a good game, showcasing African football.”

“Algeria is a big country when it comes to football. We knew automatically when we got to the quarterfinal that they’re no easy games” he said.

Despite assembling just four days prior to the start of the tournament, Sudan beat Nigeria 4-0 and drew 1-1 with Congo and goalless with Senegal to top Group D. Morocco and Madagascar have progressed to the semifinals.
