Russia men’s tennis player Daniil Medvedev has been slapped with a hefty fine in the wake of his explosive behaviour at the 2025 US Open.
Medvedev, the 2021 winner of the US Open, has been fined $42,500 by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) after confronting the umpire and smashing his racket after a game.
Medvedev was fined $30,000 for unsportsmanlike behaviour and a further $12,500 for smashing his racket in a heated period in his first and only game in this year’s competition. The fine amount represents 40% of his payout for competing in the first round of the tennis major.
In a first round shocking exit to Benjamin Bonzi of France, Medvedev was infuriated by the presence of a photographer on the court and yelled at umpire Greg Allensworth following the incident while inciting the New York crowd.

“I’m getting a big enough fine, so if I speak, I’m in big trouble, so I’m not going to speak” he said according to the BBC after getting hit with the fine. Scroll down to watch video of Daniil Medvedev’s meltdown
