Ghana asserted its dominance at the All-African U-15 Badminton Championships, securing five gold medals and one silver in a thrilling conclusion to the six-event finals held on Tuesday.
The tournament, dubbed the Ghana Grand Slam 2025, was hosted at the world-class Borteyman Sports Complex, where the home team put on a remarkable display of skill, strategy, and spirit to claim top honours.
The five-day championship brought together junior talents from 24 African countries, all competing for continental glory. Ghana, however, stood tall above the rest.
Leading the charge was Obampo Adu-Mintah, who delivered a sensational performance to win four gold medals across various events.
He was closely followed by U-15 national girls’ champion Moslena Ama Adu Koramah, who contributed three golds and a silver to Ghana’s impressive medal tally.
Ghana’s supremacy was evident in the singles finals. In the boys’ category, Adu-Mintah dispatched South Africa’s Aiden Dednam in just 23 minutes, winning 2-0 in a dominant display.

In the girls’ final, Koramah overcame Algeria’s Chiraz Halimi in a fiercely contested three-set battle, emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.
The gold rush continued with triumphs in the team relay, boys’ doubles, and mixed doubles, as Ghana wrapped up the tournament with a resounding win over South Africa.
President of the Ghana Badminton Federation, Evans Yeboah, praised the young team for their extraordinary achievements and urged them to remain focused and disciplined as they prepare for future competitions.

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, who served as the special guest of honour, applauded the athletes for their stellar performances.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development through the soon-to-be-launched Sports Fund, which aims to support badminton and other disciplines across the country.
Medals and prizes were presented to winners, with silver and bronze medalists also receiving sponsor products in recognition of their efforts.
“We’re excited about the progress of badminton in Ghana,” said President Yeboah. “At the recent African School Games, our young players contributed 40% of Ghana’s total medals, winning two golds, one silver, and two bronze. That momentum is clearly continuing.”
