On August 6, an Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter went down on a forested slope in the Adansi-Akrofuom district of the Ashanti Region, killing all on board. The victims included;

President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9, with flags flown at half-mast and official engagements suspended. A state funeral for the victims will be held at Black Star Square on August 15.

The GOC’s wreath-laying is one of several tributes organised by institutions across the country. At a military reception earlier this week, pallbearers from the Ghana Armed Forces carried flag-draped caskets in a solemn procession led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah
A board of enquiry has begun investigations into the cause of the crash. Both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered for analysis.
