Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has described the club’s situation with striker Alexander Isak as a difficult situation with the Swedish striker pushing for a move away from the club reportedly to Liverpool.

In a presser held on Friday, August 22 ahead of the club’s highly anticipated game against Liverpool on Monday, August 25 at St. James’ Park, Isak’s tense situation with the club is at the forefront of the pre-game build up.

In an explosive statement on Instagram, Isak indicated that the club had broken its promise to him regarding a transfer. Newcastle responded with an official statement debunking Isak’s assertions and Eddie Howe believes that the situation between the club and the player is a difficult one. “I haven’t seen him this week but when I see him we speak as normal, there are no issues there. It’s a difficult situation from both sides and it’s far from ideal for both parties.”

“As I say I’ve not seen him this week as he’s training later on and detached from the group. He’s contracted to us, he’s our player. My wish is that he would be playing on Monday night with us. But he won’t be and that’s regrettable” Howe said.

Isak registered 23 goals and six assists in 34 league games last season and aided Newcastle United to win the Carabao Cup to end Newcastle’s 74 year domestic trophy title drought.
