Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko wants to enjoy her new found success as much as possible before competing in this year’s US Open after winning her maiden WTA 1000 event at the Canadian Open.
Seeded as a wildcard prior to the tournament, Mboko stunned the field to bag a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Naomi Osaka en route to winning the title in front of a packed home crowd in Montreal.
Her shock win comes mere days to the start of the 2025 US Open which runs from August 24 to September 7; the upcoming tournament, which is the last grand slam of the year has a whopping five million reward for the winner in the men’s and women’s category respectively.
Speaking after beating Osaka to win the Canadian Open Women’s title, American Ben Shelton won the Men’s title, 18 year old Mboko is looking to take a cautious approach to the US Open.

“I would have never thought that I would have made it to the final, let alone win the tournament. I have so many emotions going through my head, I can’t even express it. I’ll be playing it [US Open] for the first time, so there’s a lot of new beginnings for me. I just want to enjoy the process as much as possible. Not everything will go my way or not everything is going to be positive but I’m just really happy to be in this situation.”
