“If GFA EXCO members can go three terms, why not the president?” – Bibiani Goldstars CEO

Bibiani GoldStars Chief Executive Officer, Akwasi Adu, has thrown his weight behind the proposal for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president to be allowed to serve up to three terms in office.

Speaking to *Citi Sports* on GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress held in Prampram happening now, Adu argued that there should be consistency in the statutes, noting that Executive Council (EXCO) members are already permitted to serve three terms.

“I’m for it. Why? Because I want the statutes to be clean,” he explained. “At a point in time, the statutes say the EXCO members can go for three terms  and the GFA president is part of the EXCO.\

GFA President Kurt Okraku

If you then say the president cannot do the same, it becomes conflicting and confusing.”

Adu stressed that his support for the amendment is not aimed at favouring current GFA President Kurt Okraku, but rather at creating clarity for the future.

This is not for Kurt. Other football federations have accepted similar statutes, FIFA has accepted it, and the government too.

If at the end of his second term he is underperforming, we can simply vote against him. It’s not a guarantee that he will be president for three terms ; his work will speak for itself.

The proposal, which has generated debate within the football fraternity, seeks to align the GFA president’s eligibility with that of EXCO members, sparking discussions about leadership continuity and accountability in Ghana football governance.
