Head coach of Vision FC, Nana Kwaku Agyemang, has welcomed FIFA’s approval for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to elevate the Women’s Representative on its Executive Council to the position of 2nd Vice President ; calling it a progressive step for gender equality and the growth of women’s football in Ghana.

World football’s governing body confirmed the decision ahead of the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen leadership representation in the sport.

Speaking to Citi Sports on the sidelines of Congress, Coach Agyemang said the move was in line with global trends where women are increasingly being given leadership roles in football.

I believe that in a world where gender equality is on the rise, we need to empower women as well. It would not be a bad idea for a female to be in that position to share her knowledge and experience.

Once we have a female there, she can be a voice for the women, ensure female football gets the attention it deserves, and help push it to the next level,” he noted.

He pointed to countries like Sweden, Denmark, and the USA  where women’s football is thriving as examples Ghana can emulate, adding that effective female leadership could inspire more participation and better support for the women’s game.

Beyond governance changes, Coach Agyemang also praised the GFA’s decision to provide ₵1 million to each Ghana Premier League club ahead of the new season.

“It is beneficial. Last season, many clubs struggled with salaries and players were frustrated. With this money, players can focus on the game without financial worries.

My hope is that club owners will take care of the players so we, as coaches, can get the best out of them. Kudos to the GFA and Kurt Okraku for securing this support ; it goes a long way to help the clubs,” he added.

The historic appointment and financial package are expected to boost morale, improve operational stability for clubs, and further advance women’s football in the country.
