Ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan, American sprinter Noah Lyles has backed himself to compete in the Men’s 100 Metre and 200 Metre events.

He made this clear by describing himself as a “certified doubler” in an interview after beating 2024 Olympics 200 Metre winner Letsile Tebogo in the final Diamond League event that was held in Zurich, Switzerland.

Lyles, who finished third in the 2024 Olympics 200 Metre event, beat Tebogo at the finish line to win the Zurich race with a time of 19.74 seconds with Tebogo finishing second in a time of 19.76 seconds.

In a trademark finish, Lyles run down Tebogo to win the race and seal his record sixth Diamond League title and after finishing second twice in the 100 metres earlier this month, Lyles believes he can excel in both events.

“If there was an option to get any colour medal in the 100 Metres but then break the world record in the 200 metres. I might take that world record. I don’t think there is a superior one [event] anymore. I feel that I’ve now solidified myself as a doubler so they are now both mine” Lyles said in an interview with Athletics Weekly.

This year’s World Athletics Championship runs from September 13 to September 21. In a related development, Letsile Tebogo has also confirmed that he will run in the 100 Metre and 200 Metre events.
