Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, has proposed the creation of a Ghanaian football museum ;  a bold vision to celebrate the country’s rich football history and immortalize its legendary figures.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony of the new Adesa Productions–GFA television broadcast deal for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, Debrah said initiatives like this make Ghanaian football more attractive and marketable, and must be paired with an effort to preserve its iconic past.

Let’s talk about Wilberforce Mfum who could kick a shot to torn net. What if you go look for the remnants of that net and say: ‘Go to the Ghana Football Museum and see what he damaged?

We’ve heard about Robert Mensah and the mystical Kuli Hai cap he wore through 90 minutes without it falling. Or Mohammed Polo’s legendary dribbles ;  why not display his jersey or boots in a museum for the youth to see?

He called on GFA President Kurt Okraku and corporate Ghana to support the initiative, saying it would inspire future generations while preserving the legacy of Ghana’s football heroes.

So take it up. We’ll look for the corporate organizations to back you up.”

With the new broadcasting deal set to improve visibility and marketability of the league, Debrah’s proposal adds a timely cultural dimension to the efforts to elevate Ghana football.

Debrah’s passionate remarks struck a chord with many attendees, underscoring the need to celebrate Ghana’s football heritage through physical artifacts, storytelling, and institutional memory.

With the 2025/26 season set to begin on September 6, the league is entering a new media era  and perhaps, as Debrah hopes, a new cultural one too.
